Fused Glass Materials

These pieces of glass are examples of Dichroic and non-Dichroic glass that are used to fuse together in a kiln, thus the term "Fused Glass". The two shiny pieces of glass are examples of Dichroic glass. Dichroic glass gives the finished pieces it's metallic and or look of glitter. Each fused glass bead is made with two or more layers of fused glass.

About our Glass Beads and Handmade Jewelry

GlassJewelryTreasures.com's mission is to provide you with unique Handmade Glass Jewelry.

We take pride in making the Glass Beads used in this Handmade Glass Jewelry as well as creating the finished pieces.

Introduction:  Each piece of Glass Jewelry is made with Hand Crafted Glass Beads. All Hand Crafted Glass Beads were created by the artist with Glass materials. Currently there are two types of beads that are made and used in the finished Handmade Jewelry. The two types are "Fused Glass Beads" and "Lampworked Glass Beads".

Fused Glass Beads:  On the left side of this page there is a photo with the title "Fused Glass Materials".  Pieces of glass as shown are cut, assembled, cleaned, glued together and placed in a kiln and heated for approximately three and a half hours. Once the pieces are cool, they may be cut and ground to create nicely shaped pieces. If they have been manipulated they must be placed in the kiln and heated again.

Lampworked Beads:  On the right side of this page there is a photo with the title "Lampworked Glass Materials".  Rods of glass as shown are heated with a torch to melt onto a coated metal rod called a mandrel. The mandrel is used as a base to form the bead on and it determines the size of the hole of the bead. This method of making beads provides a vast means of creating beads of many different sizes, shapes, textures and color combinations. The glass may be melted to create a very uniform and shiny bead, have raised surfaces to provide dimension, or even stretched, pulled and shaped to provide many dimensions.

Finished Jewelry:  Once the Hand Crafted Glass Beads are finished, they are then ready to be assembled to form a finished piece of Handmade Glass Jewerlry. On occasion, small manufactured Glass Beads are included to compliment the Hand Crafted Glass Beads. Most of the Jewelry is made with Sterling Silver or Gold Filled wire, beads and chains. Sometimes base metal is used, but not as often as the Sterling Silver or Gold Filled metal. All pieces are One-Of-A-Kind unless noted. We take pride in creating unique Glass Jewelry for you to wear and enjoy for years.

Lampworked Glass Materials

These are examples of different sizes of glass rods used in the process of making Lampworked Glass Beads. One or more large rods may be heated with a torch, pulled and cut to make smaller thin glass rods called "stringers". Stringers are used to give detail or thin lines of color to a bead. The larger glass rods are heated with a torch to make the base of a bead and the different layers of a bead. Stringers may be melted into the layers of a bead while the bead is still hot.
